This page explains what SARScore stores on your device and how to turn optional usability measurement off. For our providers and the wider data picture, see Trust & Data; for your rights, see Privacy.

SARScore does not use advertising cookies, and we do not use any third-party analytics or tracking services. We store a small amount of information on your device, using cookies, browser local storage, and, when the contribution tool sends a batch of measurements, a small network beacon, for two reasons only.

Making the site work

Some storage is strictly necessary, for example keeping you signed in and remembering the measurement choice you make below. This cannot be turned off, because the site would not work without it.

Understanding how the contribution tool is used

When you use the contribution tool, we record first-party measurements of how it performs: which step you are on, how long steps take, whether a step is repeated, and your device as a broad category (for example, “iOS / Safari”). We do not record your name, your answers, your precise location, your IP address, or your full device details, and we share these measurements with no other company. We keep these measurements for 90 days. Storing and reading them on your device is done under the statistical-purposes exception in the privacy and electronic communications rules.

These measurements use identifiers stored on your device (named sarscore-ut-…) that do not contain your name but that, combined with a contribution, could relate to you, so we treat them as pseudonymous, not anonymous. Genuinely anonymous, aggregated statistics may be kept for longer.

Turning measurement off

You can turn these measurements off at any time using the switch below. Turning them off stops future measurement and clears the measurement identifiers already stored on your device. It does not affect your ability to use or contribute to SARScore.

What we store, in detail

Strictly necessary: your sign-in session, and sarscore-ut-optout (records the choice above). Usability measurement (only while switched on): sarscore-ut-sid, sarscore-ut-order, sarscore-ut-queue and sarscore-ut-build in browser local storage, sent to us as a batched network beacon. No third-party origin is involved in any of this.
